Prof John R. Perfect

John R. Perfect is James B. Duke Professor of Medicine and Chief of the Infectious Diseases at Duke University Medical Center. He is Director of the Duke University Mycology Research Unit. His research is sponsored by both NIH and the pharmaceutical industry and focuses on cryptococcal pathogenesis and both translational/clinical aspects of invasive mycoses for over 35 years. He is a fellow in the Infectious Disease Society of America, American Academy of Microbiology and American Association for the Advancement of Science and a member of the American Academy of Physicians. In 2010, he led a group who revised the IDSA guidelines for the management of cryptococcosis. He is or has been on the advisory groups of a variety of organizations and study sections, but specifically is a member of the advisory panel for the International Mycoses Study Group for clinical trials and education in fungal infections.
